It's 10:30am and I've already eaten breakfast, and gotten a workout in. Instead of trying to face some kind of New Years Resolution that will inevitably end in failure I've decided to take on #OneWord365 . Forget about Resolutions, this is a promise to myself. A life lived with intention to fufill my One Word. Out of all the words in the english language I chose to live this year with Determination.
determination ;[dih-tur-muh-ney-shuh n] noun 1. the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose. 2. the quality of being resolute; firmness of purpose. 3. a fixed purpose or intention: Now this may be silly coming from a 31 year old mom but one of my favorite songs (and the song I've made my anthem for the year) is "Determinate" By Lemonade mouth -yes, from the Disney movie ;) My favorite line? "Push until you can't and then demand more!" those lyrics will resonate in my life. Pushing, and demanding more, more of myself, more of my time, more of my focus, more of all of me in all areas of my life. 2015 brings Determination in several areas. 1. My health: I am about 100+ lbs over weight. Before I had my son I successfully lost about 40lbs in 6 months. I now weigh more then when I was 9 months pregnant, and have a strong desire to have another baby, however I refuse to have another at the weight I am now. To many risks to the baby and myself. My weight holds me back from a lot with my son, I can't be as active as I'd like, my energy is slim to none on most days, and my overall health though seemingly OK now has the potential to develop into a myriad of deadly diseases. I never want my son to think I've chosen food over him. 2. This blog: I want it to be successful, I would love to see it monetize and help provide for my family, I would love to see my husband be able to quit his job(s) so we could spend time together as a family and have the time and money to take vacations- our last vacation was our honeymoon over 5 years ago, 2 days at Disney (which is about 2hrs from us) but more then money I want to see it help people, I want people to be inspired to cook, I want them to know they aren't alone when it comes to the wild world of parenting. 3. My relationships: I want to invest in my relationships. With my husband I want to spend more time with him, one on one, connecting, instead of simply existing. With my son, I want to make time to play with him, not just sit there, but be an active and important part of his play. And with my other relationships, family & friends I want to be there more, be more attentive, and be more intentional. 4. A new business venture: I am in the works of opening a new online store. Preparing, planning, building, designing, and spreading the word will be work! 5.God: I want to depend on God again, I know that growing in him will allow me to grow and have success in the other areas I've listed. I know that it's a lot, I know it's going to take work, but I am determined to change my life. If you could choose one word for 2015 what would it be, answer in the comments section below.

It's that time of year again. People across the globe are gathering with friends and family to celebrate. For some it's Christmas, others it's Kwanzaa, or maybe you celebrate Hanukkah, maybe none of these apply to you and you celebrate the Winter Solstice or Yule. No matter what or how you celebrate let me be one of the first to say Happy Holiday greetings to you all! It's also that time of year when the passive aggressive arguments start. And it always seems like it's between the Christians and Atheists. The Christians claim there is a "War on Christmas" they will wear buttons and pass out petitions that claim they are trying to "keep Christ in CHRISTMAS", Mean while the Atheists are passing out petitions and claiming that religion is being shoved down their throats. Both sides are offended, it's an endless circle, and in the end no one really "wins". No matter your religion or beliefs, I want to invite you to stop the circle of offense. If someone wishes you a "Merry Christmas" you could say "Thanks, You Too!" or even "Happy Holidays to you!" instead of being cross because someone didn't wish you the right greeting, Rejoice in the fact that someone wished you well. I believe Luke 2:14 says it best "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." No matter what you celebrate, Peace on earth and good will toward all human kind can be embraced by everyone. World Aids Day
I know with it being the first of December everyone is busy prepping for the upcoming Christmas Holiday. But it's important that we don't forget an often forgotten about group of people, those with HIV/AIDS. By bringing attention to AIDS there is hope that one day that the mortalties and impact of the disease can be lessened or completely eradicated. here are some facts about AIDS. At least 2.8 million people will have died of AIDS this year alone (that's over 5 people every minute). Young people (15-24 years old) account for half of all new HIV infections worldwide - more than 6,000 become infected with HIV every day. Africa has 12 million AIDS orphans. More than 25 million people have died of AIDS since 1981. About 40.3 million people will be living with HIV/AIDS by the end of this year. By the end of this year women will account for 46% of all adults living with HIV worldwide, and for 57% of the adults living with it in sub-Saharan Africa.
