As I was standing in line yesterday at our local Publix store I was listening to the people in front of me. They were asking if they had any Pilgrims anywhere in the store. The woman had them in previous years but somehow they got lost and she wanted new ones. You see back in the late 90's Publix supermarkets brought out S&P Pilgrims. Later they were followed by serving platters, gravy boats and more. Well 2 or 3 years ago the Pilgrims were discontinued and they brought out S&P Snow Buddies instead. I don't think they are as much of a hit though but that's my own opinion.
I got to thinking about traditions and how we carry them through our families. How it was only on special Holidays you brought out the china from the cabinet. How immediately after turkey dinner we would go to the annual tree lighting at the lake and would sing Silent Night in unison with all of the townspeople. And then it was back to the house for dessert! Usually by then we were joined by Uncles & Aunts who just waited for my Moms bread pudding and coconut creme pie. I can still here the echos of my Uncle Lou saying when you gonna bring out the bread pudding Mim..And don't dare let it be in a Styrofoam cup! I have such good family memories. Ok so now your wondering where these Pilgrims come into the picture, well we moved to Florida in 1997 and in May of 1999 my Mom went to be with the Lord. That was a very tough year and I didn't know how I would get through the Holidays without her. I really wasn't thinking about table decorations at Thanksgiving. My Daughter Dawn told me she wanted to decorate the table so as I was taking a quick nap she decorated. Her and my Grandson had found some of the biggest leaves she could find and in gold glitter wrote messages on them. Mostly they were I miss you messages. But there in the middle of the leaves were these 2 Pilgrims. Even is the midst of my sadness something about those brought a smile through the tears. Well it is years later and although the leaves have mostly disintegrated from age the Pilgrims still make there yearly visit. And every year they still put a smile on my face. They began there visit with sadness that has now turned into joy. We now look back on those times we sat around the table and laughed over the silliest things and recall so many fond memories. But those pilgrims now hear the laughter of new grandchildren, new dreams and many new memories to come. Usually it is Dawn's job to remember to bring the Pilgrims from her house to Thanksgiving dinner but a few months back she surprised me with a find at the thrift store. Brand new Pilgrims! And they are mine! So now every year I can take them out of there safe place and put them on our dinner table and just smile...From our house to yours may you all have a Happy Thanksgiving! Till we meet again..Mama Carol...

Happy Friday family! I still cannot believe how fast these weeks are going! I hope they slow down just a little..lol. Today for our freebie Friday April designed some leftover labels you can print out and tape to your jars unless you have a machine such as a Xyron or sticker paper? Anyway they will look cute on your jars. I like putting some leftovers in a jar like I have in the picture. Just put your gravy first, then turkey, potatoes, green beans and then I put my cranberry sauce in a cupcake wrapper although those silicone cups would work wonderfully as it is more durable. When you are ready to eat just pour onto a plate. No having to get out all the leftover bowls each and every time. Of course you can do this with any foods. And it will last 3-5 days in the jars! Let your family and friends make there own personalized jars before they leave :) No messing with a bunch of bowls..foil..wrap..Enjoy your day! till we meet again! Mama Carol... P.S. Don't forget your free download..
Happy Tuesday Family! So how is everybody doing with Christmas shopping? Thanksgiving prep? I think I have probably made more lists of what I want to do versus what I've already done. I really haven't seen a lot of good deals out there yet, however I did get some good finds at the Salvation Army the other day on Christmas decorations, not like I really needed more but one can never have enough Christmas decorations. Well Hubby thinks you can but that's another story.lol. Anyway let's get to today's recipe which is Turkey Sliders. Yes I used a lot of store bought foods for this however this would be awesome after Thanksgiving with your leftover turkey, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, stuffing and add some cheese in there.. So here we go....Till we meet again! Mama Carol Here are the ingredients I used... Cut your Hawaiian bread rolls in half ( I bought 2 pkgs and used an 11 X 14 pan) and layer in your baking pan (I spray it with a pan spray first so nothing sticks) Spoon your cranberry sauce on top of your rolls. You may notice some are empty. I have some picky family members (Anybody else have those?) Next add your turkey..I used Oscar Meyer only because it had a coupon.. Next goes the stuffing..(yup same picky eater..lol) Add the cheese..I used Swiss however you can use what you wish.. Melt about 1/4 cup or less of butter/margarine to brush over the tops of the buns.. Add the tops..brush with margarine/butter..sprinkle with some salt & pepper. Bake at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes. Don't these look yummy! Add some Sweet Potato fries..Enjoy!!
Happy Saturday Family! Where has this week gone? It seemed like it was Monday and before I knew it we were back to the weekend again! If your like me as it gets closer to the Holidays it seems your time gets less and less. So I try to find ways to cut corners to give me more free time. Unfortunately I have my days and nights mixed up so when I should be having lunch I'm actually just eating breakfast. So I stumbled onto www.Bigredkitchen.com the other day and was inspired by the breakfast jars.
I never thought of breakfast jars before.Thought of everything but breakfast. So what do you do when you have 2 1/2 already roasted potatoes, 1 onion, 12 sausage links, 8 turkey bacon slices, 3 mini peppers, 2 cups of spinach, 1 dozen eggs, 1 cup lowfat cheese and a cup of organic milk? Why you cook breakfast of course! I chopped and diced everything and cooked breakfast for Hubby and I put it into pint size mason jars and we have breakfast for the next 3 days. (I do have to admit we both sampled as well so we would have had enough for 4 days) When we are ready to eat them we just pour the contents of the jar on a plate and voila meal made! 1 minute breakfast! Now thats my kind of meal! Took me about an hour to put everything together but still well worth the time and I know we are having a substantial meal. Jars can be stored in the fridge for 4 days or so. Hmm..Now it's lunchtime..What can I put in a jar? Till we meet again..Mama Carol Happy Wednesday Family! This past week had seemed like a whirlwind! I am not getting things done as quickly as I would like them to be. Like I said on Facebook I have been scurrying to get my Ebay & Etsy store stocked for the upcoming Christmas season. I'm getting there slowly but surely.lol..So anyway the other night hubby says he wants to make cookies. He was checking the cabinets to see what we had to make cookies with. I remembered the recipe my Daughter uses all the time to make peanut butter cookies. He said what about flour you can't make cookies without flour? I said nope, no flour. He said these can't be good. He was surprised they were good. 3 ingredients. 1 egg, 1 cup any kind of peanut butter, 1 cup of sugar. Mix together. Roll into little 2 inch balls. Take a fork and press down on the tops to flatten a little and they get that grid mark on them. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. Done! You can't get much easier then that..And Hubby was very proud of his cookie making :) Till we meet again...Mama Carol Cookies Just Coming Out Of the Oven :)
Happy Humpday Family! I'm trying to work on getting my Ebay & Etsy store filled for the Holiday season so I look for anyway I possibly can to save time. Cooking is one of them. Casseroles, the slow cooker and one pot/dish meals are such time savers for me! So I hope in the next few weeks/months to give you lots of recipes. You know I realized today what a difference a day makes. When it was October 31st I thought I've got plenty of time to work on my Granddaughters blanket set. I've got plenty of time to stock my stores then November 1st came. Yikes Christmas is next month! How am I ever going to get everything done on time! See one day and the difference it makes. Anyway today I made chicken in my glass casserole dish. I love that dish! I didn't take step by step photos as it is really pretty self explanatory so not a lot of instructions needed :) It however was delicious! Till we meet again..Mama Carol
Happy Monday Mason Jar Mamas Family! At last the weather has been a little cooler here. Nice to not have the air conditioner going and the doors open. And even though I love my comfort foods in the fall I know I still have to try to eat somewhat healthy. It has become more of a habit then anything but before I go to bed I have a frozen yogurt. Now this isn't the ice cream kind it is yogurt this is regular yogurt that I have frozen as I LOVE frozen treats!
So after looking at all of the ingredients on the regular and store brand yogurts and seeing the sugars and the processed ingredients I knew there had to be a better way as I am trying to go as organic as possible. So then I found Stonyfield organic yogurt. It is so yummy! So then I mixed in some frozen no added sugar fruit. Even better! Bought myself some 8 oz freezer containers put my yogurt and fruit in my Nutribullet and voila! Now if you don't have a Nutribullet you can use a blender or if you let your fruit thaw somewhat you could use an immersian blender. I add the yogurt and the fruit I want blend pour in my containers, put in the freezer and I now have at least 6-7 8oz containers without all the added sugar and I can have as much fruit as I want. Try it out for yourself and leave a comment..we love comments :) Till we meet again..Mama Carol Happy Saturday! The past few days have seem to be a blur. It seemed like it was Halloween and before I knew it I realized Christmas is next month! Yikes! So I have been very busy between my Ebay business and my Etsy business trying to restock and come up with lots of new items for the Christmas season plus try to keep up with writing. It sometimes feels overwhelming but I love to see new people finding us :) and writing for those that are already part of our Mason Jar Mamas family. So, have you ever had a meal you can just keep eating and eating. You put your fork down and 2 minutes later go back for more? Well this is going to be one of them! I don't make it often because #1 I have to admit is is not the healthiest but the main reason I can eat and eat until it is gone. I feel like a stuffed turkey on Thanksgiving day but it is so worth it..lol. I found this recipe in with a bunch of old recipes given to me by my neighbor and thought I would give it a try changing a few things but the results are still amazing! If you haven't tried any of our recipes yet you have got to try this one! Please feel free to leave any comments ☺ Till we meet again..Mama Carol Use about 12 oz cooked diced chicken breast. Saute with 1 small chopped onion Cook a 12 oz bag of Light n Fluffy Egg Noodles till Al Dente (almost cooked getting fancy.lol) In a mixing bowl mix together 2 cans (10.5 oz I believe) of condensed cream of chicken soup. Mix in 1 and a 1/4 cups of lowfat sour cream. Melt a half cup of butter or margarine in a pot.. While your butter or margarine is melting crumble about 25-30 crackers. I used Publix party rounds.Mix them in with the butter once melted. Set aside. Now mix the cooked noodles, chicken, and the onion in with the soup & sour cream mixture. Preheat your oven to 350. Spray your dish with a pan spray. Place everything in a 9 x 13 in casserole dish. Sprinkle your buttered crackers on the top. I spray everything with pan spray not only does it grease the dish but it make cleanup easier as well. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Voila! Finished!
It's November! I don't know about you but this year has flown by. As fall sets in my family starts spending more time outside and doing other fun things (like Christmas shopping!) and less time cooped up in the house, this means less time -and less desire- to figure out whats for dinner then pull out whatever it is I need to defrost and then cook. So what better is there then a menu plan! I can know the night before what it is I'm cooking and take it out to defrost and even know what I'm making with it. This month I'm planning on making lots of make ahead meals that I can pull and throw in the oven or crock pot and go. I've searched for menu plans month after month and I have to say Money Saving Mom has THE BEST ones to meet my family needs. From weekly to monthly blank meal planning menus to shopping lists it's got all we need! Click the photo above to get a free 14 page pdf menu planner from Money Saving Mom!
