At 3 years old my son is my best friend. He is compassionate, caring, and funny!! But as a mom, I find myself saying things, I never thought I'd say, I honestly never thought I'd have a reason to say them. Yesterday while in the grocery store my son was trying to climb out of the cart, wanting to give him the freedom the climb, but also wanting him to do so safely, as he straddled the edge of the cart, the words came out, "be careful so you don't hurt your penis.." I got a few strange looks, but with those words he decided that climbing out wasn't worth the risk. If you were a fly on the wall in our house there are many common phrases that replay throughout the day.
"that was a burp not a fart" "can we NOT put that down our diaper" " the lizard does not need cheerios!" " stop farting in the dogs face please." "no, your army men do not need chocolate milk." take that, with lots of hugs, kisses, and a few temper tantrums thrown in and my words have never been more odd, and my heart has never been so full.

If you are anything like me you could have hundreds of dollars just hanging in your closet. Those clothes that don't fit anymore? That sweater that was just not right for you? the dress you bought for the office party? That skirt that looked better on the rack? They could be making you some moolah!
Searching for a way to make some extra cash to help support my family, I stumbled upon POSHMARK. An online closet designed to help every day women sell & trade clothing, jewelry, shoes and accessories. It's easy to get started: 1. Clean out your closet!- Admit it, you aren't wearing those jeans again! 2. Download the poshmark app and sign up for a FREE account. 3. List, sell, ship, & Earn. I've just started and am amazed at how easy it is to list on POSHMARK. The only down side is you have to have a smart phone. I've only got a few listings up but I'm working on cleaning out my closet even more, and listing more this week. The more you list the better your sales are! Check out my closet: April's Closet The other day you met the chickens, today it's time to meet Mama April's 3 Year old lab/chow mix; Ellie.
This week is Ellie's adoption birthday! She was found in a dumpster with her sister when someone rescued her and brought her to the shelter, where we found her and it was love at first sight! While her sister ran around like crazy and chewed on our shoes, Ellie sat there like a princess eager to give kisses. When they told use they guessed her birthday was April 1st, we knew it was meant to be! April 1st was our sons due date (he was delivered via c-section on March 27th) and it was just the sign that we were looking for that she was the dog we'd take home to her fur-ever home. She started so small and has turned into a big goofy love bug. I don't think we could have found a better dog, My son and her are like 2 peas in a pod and I dare anyone to try to hurt someone in her family. Though we never really let her sleep on the bed, Every time I take a nap, I roll over and find myself nose to snout with my pup! I really don't know what I'd do with out her, shes a source of peace and comfort and warmth to my feet. She enjoys tearing squeeky toys to shreds, and yes, she really does like warm hugs, there are times I'll be sitting on the couch and she comes over just for a hug. (Ok just realized, our chickens like hugs, the dog likes hugs...I'm starting to feel like the Tanner family!!) Do you have a dog? Go on over to our facebook page and share pix of your pup!! Sunday ended with another successful pop cake! This time we took on Cookies & Cream and it turned out wonderfully. Sweet & Creamy it reminded me of cookies & cream ice cream. Try it for yourself.
1 Box golden vanilla cake mix 12oz (1 1/2 c) cream soda 1/2 tub cool whip 7 oreo style cookies Mix cake mix and can of soda with whisk. Do NOT use mixer. Pour mixed cake into 8x8 or other small baking dish. Bake according to temperature directions on box. Crush cookies and set aside. Allow cake to cool and frost with whipped topping. Top with crushed cookies. Feel free to use diet soda and fat free cool whip for a lighter version. Is there a pop cake flavor you've been dying to try but not brave enough to make it yourself, let us know in the comments below! Who knew that science could taste so good? Though he's only 3 this DIY Almond Milk Ice Cream was a great & YUMMY science lesson for my 3 year old. You can see in the pic he FULLY approves. And the best part? Only 3 ingredients!
I had never made this before so I only used a small amount of ingredients, But I'm thinking you could double or triple the ingredients and get the same outcome, though it may take a little longer. 1/4 C Unsweet Almond Milk 1/4 t Vanilla 1 tbs Sugar Mix Almond milk, vanilla, and sugar in a small plastic ziplock bag (I found it easier to let my 3 year old mix it in a small cup first) . Zip bag closed I used a snack sized bag, and then put that bag into an empty sandwich size bag and zipped it closed. Fill a large gallon size bag 1/4-1/2 way with ice and 2 tablespoons of salt and drop in the bag with mixed ingredients. Zip closed and get to shaking!! The ice gets REALLY cold, so you can use a towel around it if it seems to be getting to cold for your hands.. It took about 15 minutes before we saw that we had ice cream, it may take longer or shorter depending on the outside temperature. Pour ice cream into bowl, or eat it right from the bag!! So though I found out about it about 5 minutes ago I thought this would be fun. It's time for the Biannual Blogathon Bash
It's my first time, but I think it's something that I can get done, it's only for the weekend right? I get writing done, and you my dear Mason Jar Family get more recipes, more DIYs, & more looks into our life then you can shake a stick at! If you are a fellow blogger or if you'd like to take a look at anyone else taking part in the BBB click the link below. Biannual Blogathon Bash It's been hot here in Sunny Florida! Our sprinkler had broken and my son was desperate to have some water fun. He tried spraying the hose in the air, but he couldn't hold the hose and play, but then MAMA TO THE RESCUE! I remembered I had picked up a pool noodle from the dollar store. I Grabbed our bright orange foam noodle and crumbled a large plastic bag in one end and covered it with some duct tape, making sure to create multiple layers so no water would be able to leak out, I think grabbed a pair of scissors and started making holes down one side of the noodle every couple inches. Inserted the end of the hose, and Viola! In about 5 minutes and for less the the cost of a cup of coffee I was able to create a sprinkler that my 3 year old was thrilled about! I will say that the hose didn't fit snugly into the noodle, which I'm sure I could have fixed with duct tape but I wanted to be able to remove the hose when we were done, so the water spray wasn't too high, a couple inches at least, but it was perfect for my son. I also started toying around with the idea of using something like this when I get my garden going and by allowing the pool noodle to stay in the garden and when it was time to water the plants I could simply hook it up to the hose for a bit. I may be worth a try.
So Sunday was a family dinner night at Mama Dawns house, I wanted to bring dessert, and had been thinking of some awesome "pop" cakes. I wanted something a little different so I went for what I'm calling a Purple People Eater Poke Cake. This cake was so sweet & moist and the cool whip topping gave it a wonderful creamy finish.
1 Box of your favorite cake mix 1 Can grape soda 1 box grape jello 1 cup hot water Mix cake mix and can of soda with whisk. Do NOT use mixer. Pour mixed cake into 8x8 or other small baking dish. Bake according to temperature directions on box. Allow to cool & poke holes into cake. Mix jello and hot water til dissolved. Pour jello over cake. (I only used 1/2 cup, you can use more or less depending on your taste.) Once cool frost with Cool Whip. Store in fridge til ready to eat. Enjoy! Sometime after Christmas mama Dawn decided she wanted to become a chicken mama. So her and hubby set out and built a wonderful chicken coop in their back yard, where their 3 chickens lived happily, until the one fateful day when the neighbors dogs escaped and tragically killed one of the chickens. Heart broken, but wanting more, they went off and adopted 2 more. Not wanting them to fall prey to the neighbors dogs again we decided to move the chickens into Mama Aprils back yard. After only a week we learned there was another predator we never thought of, Mr.Raccoon. But thankfully all the sqwaking alerted someone to the danger and we were able to scare away the raccoon, one chicken lost a few tail feathers, and another had quite a scratch on her head, so we got smart. It was our first time owning chickens, and never knew that raccoon would be a danger. We refitted the coop with a double layer of hardware wire which keeps the raccoon's from being able to reach into the cage and a better hide away for the chickens. We've been without incident since, and through it all we are proud to say we have 2 card carrying egg layers..The other 2 are still to young, but should start laying within the next 3-5 months. Now it's time to meet the girls: Ginger, Fluffy, Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dumb. Ginger & Fluffy are part of the original crowd and the oldest, they are also our current egg layers. Though from the same flock and the same age, Ginger has been the one to step up her claim as the HCIC (Head Chick In Charge). She and fluffy are also the friendliest and most social. When we go out in the morning Ginger always waits at the door for petting, and then will hop up to the nesting boxes as you gather eggs and talk to you a bit. Fluffy enjoys a pet here and there as well, and if in the off chance she escapes while changing out food and water she will simply sit down until you pick her back up. Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dumb are the newest chicks in town. A few months younger then the others they haven't started laying yet, and aren't as sociable, and don't care much for petting, they do love to talk and make noise. Be sure to keep a look out for more chicken adventures... |
